Seeing positives in lifes changes

Life changes all the time and sometimes we need to change our plans/goals accordingly. I am not saying give up on your goals, it’s just sometimes we need to modify them or modify the way we will achieve those goals.

Yes when it comes to goals we need to get past any obstacle and keep persevering. It is the only way we will truly succeed. I am talking more about life changes and how that affects our plans.

It’s not always bad. Sometimes it might seem bad, but it can turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

I have had a lot of changes in my life over the last year and it has not been an easy one. At times I felt like throwing in my whole million dollar challenge. It just felt all too hard. The way I wanted to do it/ thought I would do it was just not going to happen. The main thing I wanted to do was renovate old homes and resell them. My husband did not.

I am a little OCD about things going the way I plan and do not handle it too well when they don’t. I am getting better at it, but I know it is a huge flaw of mine.

One way I have found really helpful is to try and look at the positives or at least try to find some positives. I am not by nature one of those people who can always find the positives. I am a generally happy person, but I cannot really handle things not going right. If it is not going according to my plan, the world is ending (well, in my eyes anyway!)

So looking at positives is not easy for me but it is something I am learning. Take my house for example. It has been a rental for the last few years. We wanted to sell it and buy in Canberra. We put it on the market, it didn’t sell, so we asked the tenants to vacate and we moved in.

Our tenants had been great, but it was like once the house was for sale they stopped caring. When we did the final inspection I wanted to cry, my house was so bad. How bad? There’s some pictures here.
- Mould on all the cornices
- Bathroom, despite being new when they moved in was now all mouldy and the towel rails etc... all rusty
- Lawn completely over grown and full of rubbish
- Rubbish in the garage
- A MASSIVE cockroach problem
- Drawing on the walls and lots of dents and scratches
- Gouge marks in the wooden floors
So that gives you a bit of an idea what we were looking at.

At first I was really sad, then angry. But then I decided to look at the positives.
- This finally motivated my husband to do something about the house
- We would be able to renovate the house and sell it for more
- We would be able to present the house better when it is on the market
- It would give us renovation experience
- We wanted to repaint and now they are paying for it
- It gave us an excuse to buy tools (I have wanted an electric sander for so long!)
- Sydney is cheaper for everything, so we will save money living here

Whilst this all might not seem much to you, it is big to me. I am actually really happy now my tenants trashed my house. It was what we needed to do what we should have done a while ago.

So whilst this meant I had to change my dream of buying a house in Canberra this year and I had to move somewhere I vowed never to live again it has been a good change. At first thought it was a horrifying change for me to have to face, but looking at it in a different light has helped me be more proactive about the whole situation as well.

An added bonus to this whole situation is my husband is now considering renovating homes for me. (I realise a lot of the world has seen house prices plummet and it is ridiculous to even consider. In Australia our prices haven’t dropped at all, in fact they have gone up and up). There is no way he would have changed his feelings if we stayed in Canberra.

This change has also opened doors for opportunities I would not have had if I had stayed in Canberra. I haven’t been here long, but I can now see it was the right thing, despite my reluctance.

Going with change can be good.

Money challenge

So I got a response of 3 definites doing my money making challenge, MMB, Nellbe and miggles. Thank you so much for joining me, but unfortunately it’s not enough people to run the comp.

I will still be trying to see how much I can turn my $100 into and would love it if you did the same. I’d love to post your final outcome so all my readers can see.

So far I haven’t done much. I am in the process of a few things, so we’ll see what comes of it all.

On a different note my house is taking quite some time, but we are getting there.

Tips on getting rid of stuff/de-cluttering

With my recent move I have been looking at a lot of my things in a different light. I kept stuff in my garage up here, stored away for when I have a house again and now that I am looking at it, I really don’t want it.

In fact, thinking back to all the things I have gotten rid of over the years there’s not much I can think of that I wish I kept.

I do have trouble letting things go though and it can cost me dearly. I know I am not the only one who has issues getting rid of stuff.

Some of the reasons for struggling with letting go are
1.) Sentimental value. Just because someone you love gave you something doesn’t mean you need to keep that thing.
2.) You spent a lot on it and don’t want to throw it away/donate it. You want ot get some money back for it.
3.) You are too lazy to sort it
4.) It might come in handy one day...

My reasons are more no.1 and 2. I hate the thought of how much money I have wasted over the years on this stuff and lots of it does still have value, but instead of selling it, it has sat there.

Also, sentimental. I have a hard time letting go of things that were my mums. She died 10 years ago and I always felt like getting rid of her things was like getting rid of her, but it’s not. I have my memories, I don’t need her stuff.

I have kept lots of things for when I have a house. You know what though? Coming from a 1 bedroom with not much space to a larger home, I don’t want to fill it with that ‘stuff’!

Letting go of things can be hard. Here is what I am doing. Everything in my house is boxed up. As things get used they get to stay out of the boxes. Things that are not used stay packed. We only plan on being here a maximum of 6 months. If I have stuff in those boxes I have not used in that time (except winter clothing, as I won’t need that over the summer months) it’s going. Don’t care how, I am just not moving it again.

Some of it I am clearing out now. Things I know I will not use/have no use for. I do not need the clutter.

For many it can be a huge almost insurmountable task to get rid of things. Here’s some ways to make it easier.

1.) Do it in small timeframes. For example, spend just 15 minutes a day or every few hours sorting and getting rid of things, instead of tackling the whole thing at once.
2.) Or set aside a few hours to go through it all. It’s really a matter of what suits you better. I am a do it all at once type of person, not everyone is though.
3.) Think quick. Don’t stand there umming and aahing or reminiscing over things. If you don’t use it, get rid of it.
4.) If there is stuff you can’t bear to get rid of put it in a box, seal it shut and label it. Put is in the garage and if you have not opened it in 6 months or a year, get rid of it. You don’t need or want it.
5.) Do small sections. You could choose to de-clutter a kitchen drawer at a time instead of the whole kitchen. This breaks the task down into bite size pieces making it much easier.
6.) Get rid of it. Once you have decided to get rid of something do it. Don’t put it in a box to donate/sell later only to end up putting them in storage. Just get rid of it.

It’s not always easy to get rid of stuff, but it is definitely worth it. The next step after getting rid of everything is to not clutter your house up again.

Making Money Challenge - Are you doing it?

I am just wanting to get a feel for how many people are actually taking part in my money making challenge?

I know lots of people like the idea of it, but has anyone put anything in motion/made any money other than me and Miggles.

I have not had time to do much with it as my house has been left in a not so great state when my tenants moved out, leavign me with a lot of work due to me moving in.

I have made a bit, but I haven't had the time to devote to it like I would have liked.

I am just wondering if anyone is doing it as most of the comments are from new followers (which is awesome) but the comments are not generally in reference to the challenge.

So if you are doing it, can you let me know either by contacting me or posting a comment below. If there is not much interest I will continue doing it, but I won't be doing it as a competition on here. So I will still be striving to turn it into as much cash as I can.

Thanks.

Moved house

I moved house on Saturday and I have ALOT of work to do, so might be a bit MIA this week.

There is so much work to be done on this property and we want to get it done asap. None of the rooms are really useable since the tenants left it in such a lovely state for us.

I have got the bathroom done and roach bombed the place, so it is starting to come together. One of the rooms will be painted tomorrow, so we have a timeline.

The aim is to renovate and sell asap. We had been trying to decide between selling as is and buying something we like or doing some renovations and sell it for more.

I ran into a friend who just retired from being a real estate agent and he advised we do the kitchen and most of it is about presentation. Funny, my sister in law and I just talked about this.

Basically, most people can't see potential in homes. The better a home is presented e.g. neutral colours, very clean and nice furntiture, the more likely it is to sell for what you want.

A lot of people can't see past the different paint colours or old furniture to see the gem a house could be. Which is great for thos eof us who can see potential. We bougth this house because of the "potential". It just never got done.

Now we finally have the money (and my husband has the motivation) to do it all. We have quite a list, but it's all cosmetic and nothing too large, other than sanding and polishing the floorboards.

We've set a budget, but are aiming for as fair below that budget as we can get! We priced things today and should be able to come in well under.

So please forgive me if I don't get on here much this week. I will try.

Thanks and welcome to all my new followers too! :)

Money Making Challenge - Bonus Entries for $100 CASH

So how are we all going with the Money Making Challenge? I have been working away at it. Not sure what I am talking about? Click the link to see. Basically it is a challenge to turn $100 into as much as we can. It’s up to us what we do with it, e.g. buy things to resell, use it to advertise things we want to sell, use it to buy things to make etc... Basically how much money can you make with it between the start and 30th of Nov. At the end we will link up and will find a winners. There will be 2 winners getting $100AUD cash each!

If you need help with making money ideas or how to go about things you can get my ebook – Make Money from Home here.

Also, as an extra bonus, if you post about the money making challenge and link to it on your blog/facebook/email friends/twitter and put a comment here that you have done so you will get an entry on the draw for 1 of the 2 x $100AUD cash prizes. So let everyone know and encourage them to follow my blog. I will be hosting a give-away once I hit 500 followers!

So, I have been doing ok on the challenge, but since I move tomorrow my focus has been on that, not the challenge. Although, I have sold some of the books I bought and made a few things I have sold, so my money has gone up a little.

As I mentioned earlier I bought some things to resell, not all of which were successful, but I did makes some money that way.

I did my eBook Make Money From Home and have it up on here now.

I paid for some advertising on 2 other sites to generate more traffic for here. It’s worked too, and it is a long term thing, so the effects will continue to be seen.

I didn’t get to do the in house sale/garage sale like I wanted as we ended up moving earlier and I was in Sydney last weekend, but I do still plan on having one.

So my $100 has not changed greatly because I used some of my profits for advertising, but it is going up and that’s the main thing.

What has everyone else been doing?

Cash Emails Club - I got paid!

I posted before about Cash Emails Club being a scam. It has been a rough ride with them, but I finally got paid most of my money today.

They had lots of problems and some of my money is still "pending" and will likely stay that way permanently.

I'm not sure if they are a scam or if it was simply a matter of being relatively new and stuffing everything up. I know a lot of people joined around the time I did and it may not have expected so many people.

As it stands my other accounts with their sister company Paid SUrvey Bank got dropped below the pay out limit and has stuff pending, which I am not sure I will see.

There's a few groups affiliated with this lot and I am not sure if they paid out one in the hopes of getting people to continue, so they can continue to scam or if they genuinely just messed up.

I have noticed the payments in their emails have gone from being almost $1 to 2c and 5c etc... So maybe they were paying too high and with so many members they were unable to pay out.

Either way, they did not handle it well. I am undecided what to do, but thought in the interest of being fair I should inform you I got paid by one of them.

Did anyone else get paid?

Blog Awards!!

I am so touched. I just got 3 blog awards. The 1st one from 3 different bloggers
Through My Eyes, The White Whimsies who also gave me the other 2 and 7 on a Shoestring who also gave me the other 2 as well. So I guess since I got 3 awards from 2 bloggers and 1 from another blogger, it's really 7 awards! I am so stoked! Thank you all SOOOOO much! :)

Rules for accepting these are:

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you the award
2. Share 7 things about yourself
3. Pass this on to 15 other great bloggers you recently discovered
4. Contact the selected bloggers and tell them about their awards.

Seven things about me:

1.) I am 1 of 9 kids, 5 from my mum, 4 step, 2 of which took on my dads name and to me are my brothers, not step brothers.
2.) I grew up in Tasmania and love it, but don't think I could live there again.
3.) I currently live in a 1 bedroom unit. It's squishy, but we've did it for over a year and are about to move
4.) I LOVE the beach. I want to live on the beach. I would go swimming at the beach in winter in Tasmania when I was younger and lived there. I seriously love it!
5.) I love magazines, but try not to buy them. They are a hideous waste of money, but I love flicking through them.
6.) I once lost 25kgs on the worst diet ever and pretty much no exercise. Diet consisted of Krispy Kremes for breakfast (free at work), salad roll for lunch, sometimes free, and coco pops or cheesecake for dinner (my best friend and flat mate worked at The Cheesecake Shop, so got them for free.) I was broke and ate what I got for free or supremely cheap. Not healthy way to lose weight but I looked FANTASTIC!
7.) I am LDS.

That was hard! And yeah, I will answer questions on those 7 things if you are curious.

So 15 blogs I have recently found and really like...
A Little Bit of Everything a crafty/cooking/travel/photography/everything blog
Around My Family Table another cooking blog
Big Mama and The Bristol Project she has just one change blog hop each week for weight loss and because of it I lost 3kg last week!
Jangles Quilts she does amazing quilts such as customized Australian ones. She’s also having a fabric sale!
Living a Healthy Beach Life is a couple who want to retire at 30, so similar to me!
Me in Millions is also working towards becoming a millionaire.
Pretty Handy Girl is a home decor type blog with great ideas
Pumpkin Tart is an awesome cooking/recipes blogs
Stretching the One Income Dollar has lots of money saving ideas
The Adventures Of Loser Girl is all about her life. It’s quite interesting. Especially her recent date with “Bob”.

Tightwad in Training is a great money saving blog.
What’s in the Crock Tonight is cooking up a storm in the crock pot
Daily Dose of Fitness has heaps of exercise advice

Tips on selling a car

Selling a car can be really frustrating but you can make it easier.

The easiest option is trading it in, but you won’t get much for it. You will usually get thousands of dollars less than what it is worth, but if you are in a hurry and want to do a deal on one of their cars this can be the best option.

If you have a bit more time, selling it privately means you can get more for it. It can be a bit of a hassle with returning emails and getting constant phone calls but when it’s a few thousand dollars difference I think it’s worth it.

This week I sold my car and it was a relatively easy process this time.
- I placed an ad on Carsales. It was only $30 more for a premium ad, meaning I got more photos and my ad would come up either at or near the top when someone looked for my type of car.
- I put up photos of every angle of my car plus photos of the inside
- I listed everything that is on my car
- I had serviced it recently so made sure to note that in the listing and that it has full log book history
- I still have a few months on the rego which appeals to most people. If they have to pay for rego within weeks of purchase most people do not like this.
- I had looked up my car on Redbook to see what it was worth and listed it at the lower end of the value because I wanted it sold asap.
- I kept all the details of the car in one spot to enable me to see them quickly and answer any questions when anyone called.
- I was available as possible, enabling more people to look at my car.

I could not believe how much interest I had in my car this time round. I have tried selling a car before with no luck. I did a few things differently and it was so much better.

I do think the fact that it was a 4WD helped and that it had a couple of extras other models didn’t have, but I think following my above steps made the whole process easier.

How about you, any tips for selling a car?

Scrap for Yaz - This Saturday

Scrap for Yaz is happening this Saturday! What is it? Well, it is a big event for Yasminah’s Gift of Hope happening on Saturday in Parramatta.

“SCRAP FOR YAZ If you are in NSW we invite you to join us next Saturday the 9th of October at the Mercure Hotel Parramatta between 9am - 4pm for a day of fun! Help us decorate journals to provide to families with children in Neonatal Intensive Care or dealing with the loss of their baby. Even if you aren't creative there are still ways that you can get involved. “

Since October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month YGOH will be doing a few things to help out. Even if you can’t attend Scrap For Yaz there are other things you can do.

- YGOH is holding an auction at the end of the month on facebook to help raise fund to take this program to more hospitals. If you have a business which you would like to donate something from to be auctioned off it would be a great help.

- You could donate to help fund the journals, either money or scrapbooking supplies.

- Link to YGOH on facebook so your friends can hear about them too. You never know who might be in a position to go or help out in some way.

- Spread the word any other way you can think of, email, facebook, twitter, blogs, anything.

I will be there on Saturday selling copies of my book and making journals. 10% of my royalty from every book sold is donated directly to Yasminah’s Gift of Hope.

So if you can, we’d love to see you there.
