How to make 1 million dollars

I have been doing a lot of reading lately, about how to make a million dollars, how to make millions per year etc...

One thing that stood out and now I can’t remember where I read is basically all you have to do is double your money 14 times, starting with $100.
So starting with $100, once would be $200
Twice $400
3 times $800
4 times $1,600
5 times $3,200
6 times $6,400
7 times $12,800
8 times $25,600
9 times $51,200
10 times $102,400
11 times $204,800
12 times $409,600
13 times $819,200
14 times $1,638,400

Isn’t that amazing? It ends up being well over 1 million! It sure looks easy, right? I mean doubling your money can’t be that hard. Can it? So how do you do it?

Well, some people do it with real estate, others with a business, some do it successfully online, and some trade in shares. There are lots of ways you can do it.

I think it’s all a matter of how willing you are to work for it? Some ways require a lot more work than others and it’s not all easy. I have been thinking about this at great length due to the properties I have seen lately.

If I bought one, did it up, doubled my money then used that money to buy 2 more fixers, which I could do up and double my money again, I’d have gone from $60,000 to $240,000 relatively quickly. (that is provided I can do the reno’s fast.)
I could then take that money, buy more and do it over a few times to get my desired $1,000,000 but it would be a lot of hard work.

You don’t have to start with $100. Any amount will do but the principle is the same. Look around you. How can you double your money?

Another way is if I sell a certain amount of my books by promoting the heck out of it (which I plan to do soon) I will have $1,000,000. Since I plan on paying 25% of my profit to charity and I need to pay tax on it when I do my free efile, it’s a higher amount of books I need to sell than you’d think, but still completely doable.

If you could make $1 on something and sell 1,000,000 that is $1million before tax. Alternatively selling 100,000 for $10 will yield you the same result.

A lot of it comes from having the will power to not spend the returns on your investment, but to reinvest them instead. By spending what you make you won’t move forward but if you reinvest and reinvest the money will grow and as you can see from above, once you get to larger amounts of money it snowballs quite quickly.

A good way I think (says she who is yet to get there!) is to diversify. That is, do not rely on one thing to make your million; instead, work out a few income streams. You could use property, online and shares. You could do some selling, start your own business and invest in property. Whatever you feel comfortable doing, whatever combo feels right for you, go for it.

And just to give you a little heads up, I have shortened my deadline for $1,000,000 by a lot and my aim is now to be financially secure, completely free by the time I am 30. I do not think this is crazy. I think it is totally doable.

What does it take to make one million - John Assaraf

What does it take to make one million is a fantastic read. You are probably all aware of The Secret and about the law of attraction. If you don’t know about it you should read it.

John Assaraf is mentioned in The Secret but he elaborates on it and explains the law of attraction and how we must apply it through ACTION in his book The Answer co-written with Murray Smith. It will truly change your thinking.

I thought that the way the secret described the law of attraction was ok, but The Answer delves into this and other laws much deeper and how we can truly change our thinking. The first half is by John the second half by Murray.

Here’s a little excerpt about the book

“At any one time, hundreds of thousands of people feel stuck professionally and don't know what to do to get out of their rut. In today's complex business world, the brutal reality is that there are no guarantees for success. Surprisingly, many of us are unconsciously conditioned to fail although, ironically, it's not all that difficult to dramatically reverse the odds. John Assaraf has developed a unique and amazing formula that will help people overcome obstacles, transform their careers and businesses and start making the kind of money needed to live an extraordinary life. In his latest book, The Answer, Assaraf draws on new findings in neuroscience, understanding why we do what we do and, more importantly, why we don't do what we know we should be doing. His methods will help individuals 'rewire' their brains for success so they can emerge as winners no matter what they currently know or understand. It will also teach them how to attract and use newly discovered 'uncommon' sense to achieve business success.”

Once you’ve read it, leave a comment to tell me what you think.

Changes to 1001 post

I have changed my 1001 ways to make money post. It now has the first 500 in more detail and the second 501 will come soon. I didn’t like do it in so many posts, so whilst these will be 2 really long posts I think it is better. To see my post click here

1st meeting

We had our first money club meeting today, though there were lots of interruptions and it didn’t quite happen fully, but it was a start.

Not all of us ended up being able to make it, 1 of us was late (me) and another one of us had to leave early, so there ended up being only a small window where we could talk.

One thing none of us thought of was switching off the mobiles and they all went off, so there were lots of interruptions that way.

I come away feeling very inspired and motivated though. I know one other member did, not sure about the other as she had to leave early. I hope she enjoyed it.

We are aiming for another in 2 weeks. Mobiles will need to be switched off and hopefully I will have done a lot of things on my list of things to do by that time. I’m sort of motivated to do it as I will be accountable to other people.

I guess as we have more meetings we will have more of an idea as to how we want to do it and how we will help each other. I think it will be really good

Self Publishing

So I thought I would post what I have learnt and done with self publishing so far.

To start with, I wrote my book. It took quite some time, but once it was done I need to edit it and start looking around for a publisher. To edit you need other people to read it and edit it for you or you need to pay a few thousand to get a professional editor to do it.

After seeing how long it would take to get it published by your normal publishing houses, I decided to self publish. I figured since my book was slightly more unique and had something different about it, it would be OK to go this way.

I read everything I could on self publishing. This article is probably the best one I read and I read all the links in his article too.

Firstly I tried publishing with Bookpal and they were terrible. I would not recommend them to anyone!

When I read the article above I had a look at Lulu and various American publishers but decided on Equilibrium Books and they were fantastic. They checked with me every step of the way, answered all my questions quickly, fixed the lay-out of my book and some errors and everything. I would recommend them to everyone.

Now, my book has been published, though it is not officially in store until 31st March. You can see it here. But just because it is published doesn’t mean my work had stopped.

Before it was officially out I needed a website for it. I tried doing it myself, but I was not very good at it and it was frustrating me, so I got my sister to do it for me. Click here to see my site. I’m very happy with it.

Some people do book launches, but from what I read everywhere they are more expense than they are worth and I ended up just not being able to do one due to many reasons. If you want one, by all means do it.

I have, however, arranged a book signing at a Angus and Robertson, who are carrying my book. I rang the store manager of the Civic store we arranged a date to do it. They were very enthusiastic about it and I will be arranging more. They order the books in and i will just go in and sign.

If you choose to self publish you need to be confident enough to talk about your book everywhere and to everyone. Why? Because if you don’t who will? You are trying to sell copies and it is not that you are selling to everyone. Publishing a book is quite an achievement and most people are very excited for you for that fact alone. The more people you talk about it to, the more people they will talk about it to and so on.

For my book signing because it is a recipe book, I will be making some of the recipes for people to sample and to make it more interesting. I am hoping that by people tasting the cakes and things, they will be more inclined to buy my book or at least remember it for later.

A few other things I have done or am doing is set up a Facebook Fan page, I will be doing a twitter account, plus I am aiming to try and get on TV at some point. I talk about it to pretty much everyone and I have A LOT of enthusiasm about it when I talk to people.

Also I am donating money from my profits to my friend who needs treatment in America for her daughter. I’ve written about it on my home page. They need to go to a clinic in June. I will be doing different charities at different times and contacting the organisations to work something out.

I also plan on doing some markets to promote my book. At the markets I will be selling some things made from my book, the book and having items people can taste. There are a few markets I am thinking of doing around the place, so I will see how I go.

As I learn more or find what works I will post more. You might want to check out this blog as he is on the journey of publishing his book now.

My biggest piece of advice though is to do it. If you feel a book in you, write it and get it out there. Just believe in yourself.

1001 ways to make money part 1

I am sorry to anyone looking for this page. I had to remove it, but don't worry it's for a good reason. A very exciting project has come up meaning this had to be taken down.

Again, I am sorry. I'll let you know more soon.

Money Club

I talked about starting a money club yesterday. I also talked about the right mindset today. By combining them you get an entrepreneurial club that will help keep you in the right mindset.

In Cash in a flash this idea is discussed a lot. I first heard about this concept in The one minute millionaire. Both books are by the same authors, though Cash in a Flash is after The one minute millionaire.

Essentially it is a group of 4 -6 people, no more, no less, who get together regularly, discuss their ideas, support and help each other to achieve their goals, give opinions and are basically a positive force to enable one another to reach their goals.

In both books one side is fact the other side is a story. In The one minute millionaire you hear about Michelle’s story. She needs and makes $1,000,000 in 90 days to get her kids back. In Cash in a flash her story continues but she has a new club and a new way of doing it. Both books have great ideas on making money but also on changing your mindset.

At the start of The one minute millionaire Michelle has a very poor woe is me mindset. As you read on it shows you how she changes and you can too.

It may seem unrealistic, $1,000,000 in 90 days, but wouldn’t we do anything to save our kids? If that is what it took to save your family, wouldn’t you do it?

She has a team helping her which is what makes it possible. Things like this are done faster with groups. She had someone to help her financially and mentor her to start off, but there are lots of people out there looking for investment opportunities, you just need to know where to look.

These 2 books are the best books I have read. They have opened my mind and really helped me see things in a different light.

We have the members for our group. We actually had an unintentional meeting the other week where we were just discussing ideas and things whilst hanging out, so we have decided to form officially and meet regularly. We all have ideas already and help each other all the time, so we are already a positive force in each other’s lives.

There are some of these types of clubs who are established and looking for new members if you are interested. Alternatively you could look at starting your own. I’ll keep you updated about what it’s like.

Healthy chocolate - no joke!

I have just heard about a fantastic work from home opportunity that sounds too good to be true, but it’s not! Seriously, hear me out. This company is new to Australia. Most companies like Avon and Tupperware have been here so long, there are so many reps etc... Plus to make REAL money from these types of things you need to be at the top. Be there when it is starting here.

Well, how would you like the opportunity to work from home selling healthy chocolate Seriously. Click on it. They are new to Aus and the products are GREAT!

There aren’t many reps here and you can have your own site (like the one I have linked to) so you can sell from home.

They are nicely set up and if you decided to go down this route, this looks like one of the best ones out there and to be the only person in your area doing it, means you will not be battling other reps, trying to “win” customers over, or have people spacing out their orders because they have to go to 5 parties this month.

I have a lot going on right now, so can’t do it, but I do know people doing it and they love it. I’m not getting paid to plug this product either. I just think it is a great opportunity, that if I was not doing so much else I would do. I mean, who doesn’t want NICE healthy chocolate?

The right mindset

Having the right mindset is so important. Believing 100% that you will achieve your goals, visualising that you have succeeded is one of the biggest factors in achieving and being successful.

Of course, believing without doing is not going to work. You need to be actively trying to achieve your goal, not just sit back and believe you will. I mean, I can believe I will be a size 10, but without eating properly and exercising it is just not going to magically happen. BUT without believing in myself and being positive about it, it won’t happen either.

Quite a while ago I changed my mindset from focussing on our budget and how we would be able to save money by doing various things to cut back our spending to focussing on my million dollar challenge and ways I can make money. It has had an unbelievable effect.

Money is no longer an issue. I am not rich, but we always have enough and plenty to save. I think of new ways to make money every day and things are much more positive than when I focussing on saving only.

I visualise what it will be like when I have achieved my goal. I visualise different steps along the way. I visualise giving my friend $10,000 to help her take her daughter with Alstroms to a much needed clinic in America. I visualise owning properties in capital cities that I am able to rent out for lower to help people save for their own home. This is my main aim, which I will discuss more further down. I visualise myself travelling and not being worried about money.

When I visualise I completely see myself in my mind doing these things, right down to what I am wearing, what different homes look like, how I am donating the money to my friend (through a bank transfer to the specified account), everything as if it is happening. I don’t just think oh, I’d love it if this happened. I see it happening.

I also believe that because my intentions behind my challenge are good that I will definitely succeed. As I mentioned a bit further up, I would like to have properties in capital cities to rent out for lower to help people afford their own homes. My basic idea is I will have the properties either paid for or mostly paid for. There will be a thorough interview process and I will set the rent lower than market rate for 3 years to enable people to buy their own home. Rent is getting so expensive everywhere it is getting near impossible for anyone to be able to afford to buy. I will be renting to those who genuinely want to buy their own home.

It might not make a huge difference to a lot of people, but even making a difference to a few people’s lives it worth it.

I believe when your aim to be financially rich is greed, it is a lot harder to get there. The more you give the more you receive. The receiving is not always monetary either because that is not the most important thing in life. Being rich is not just a financial thing.

Plans for the next month

I have a few things planned for the next month.

1.) On 27th march I am doing a market with my sister in law
2.) On the 7th April I am helping the same sister in law with her business.
3.) I will finish my 1001 ways to make money BUT instead of an ebook I will be posting it on here and elaborating on various ideas in different posts so it will be FREE for you all.
4.) I will be doing a book signing in Civic Canberra on April 18th and will be organising more here PLUS some in Sydney.
5.) I will be organising a few other things to help my friend with fundraising for her clinic in America for Alstrom Syndrome.
6.) I will be starting my other blog (was going to be my website, but since I hate doing them it will start as a blog and possibly go to a site later.)
7.) I will be researching more on blogging and how to improve.
8.) I will be starting a money type club that I will explain more tomorrow.

So I have quite a few plans for the next 3 weeks. I will be posting the 1001 ways to make money hopefully in the next few days, as I would like it up asap. It will be just the list and I will elaborate more on ideas in different posts, not one idea to a post either, so it wont be drawn out forever! It’s too much info for one post though.

Book signing and helping others.

I have organised a book signing which I am VERY excited about. I rang Angus and Robertson in Civic Canberra to see if they would be interested and the manager was VERY interested. She is ordering in books, working out a day, it will be a Saturday and organising everything!

I will be cooking and taking some samples of recipes from the book as well. The manager was so friendly and helpful. She was excited because I am a local author (it sounded so weird to be called an author!) and she told me they had a cook book signing before Christmas and sold out, so was very keen to do another.

I chose Angus and Robertson because they have always given the best customer service and been supremely helpful every time I have gone to a store. My book is available through them as well.

I was hoping to organise a few more promotional type things today but unfortunately for my daughter she has been quite unwell, so we spent a lot of time at the Drs and have to go back tomorrow. We have some medicine which I am hoping helps her. At this stage we have diagnosed 1 thing wrong with her, which should be gone in a week, but they are testing for a few other things. Nothing too serious, but I hate seeing my baby this way. I was proud of the fact that I diagnosed her correctly (it was confirmed by the Dr) and my suspicion of what else might be wrong is what the Dr suspects, so I am glad I am in tune with my daughters.

The whole time I have been working on my book I have wanted to use some of the proceeds to help charities and things. I have chosen who I am going to help until the 31st of May. My friend’s daughter has Alstrom Syndrome, a very rare genetic disorder and she needs to go to America in June for a clinic. That’s why I set the 31st May deadline. Only 2 people in Australia have it and she is one of them. Flights alone are $10,000 for them. There is more information on Alstrom’s here

In June I will be donating a percentage of my profits to cancer research in memory of my mother who died 10 years ago this June of cancer.

Competitions

Competitions aren’t a guaranteed way to make money. I entered all those ones in the magazines last month and won a big fat nothing, which I kind of expected.

But all those competitions that are free to enter you may as well try. This month I will be entering every competition I come across that is free to enter. Free to enter for me will include those competitions some products do where if you buy one or two you can enter whatever comp. I will only do that with products I already buy though and actually need not every single one in the store.

I figure by entering every competition I am bound to win something sometime and since a lot of competitions are now completed online it won’t cost me anything.

I will be keeping a record of every competition I enter, what I write for those 25 words or less ones and that sort of thing.

One thing I plan on doing that I have never done is reporting trolleys. Quite a few of the retailers such as Woolworths, Target, Franklins etc... are signed up with trolley tracker which is a site where you can report lost trolley’s. You go in the drawer to win one of 5 $1000 prizes each month. Considering I don’t know anyone who actually reports the trolleys, it’s worth a go.

Another great site to check out is Buckscoop they have competitions, cash back offers, freebies, deals and vouchers on their site. Some things can take a while for you to get the money, but it costs nothing to join, so you have nothing to lose.

Not all competitions are cash prizes obviously, but anything for free means a saving elsewhere, so I still think it’s worth it. Even if you won’t use the prize, could it be used as a gift or sold to get some cash?

So I’ll be on the lookout this month for competitions, in shops, in my local paper, online, everywhere. If you hear of any, let me know.

Positive properties

Call me crazy but I have been looking at property again! But seriously, this time it’s different.

You always hear about positively geared properties and I have always thought, yeah right, where, not near me. That’s true, not near me, but they ARE out there.

I have lived in a few states and so kind of know a few areas. Last night I was searching real estate and I was amazed at the amount of positively geared properties out there. They are in obscure areas and I’d like to do more research on how easy it is to rent the properties out there. I am interested in keeping them as rentals, not so much for capital gains, though obviously the best properties give you both.

I have seen quite a few properties that with a bit of elbow grease they would double in value. I guess the thing is no one has the spare money to do it and there are a lot of repossessions happening left right and centre, so the banks aren’t really lending the money. Also most people don’t want to do the work.

I am willing to do the work and soon I will have enough money to buy one of these properties so I am going to keep looking. I am very excited about the possibility of how soon I could be owning property.

I will be talking with the real estate agents and Googling to research the areas more and I will be talking to the bank too, so I will let you know.

Signed copies available - Limited Time!!

As of today you can order a signed copy of 26 Ingredients through me. They will not be in stock until next week, so you won’t get it any quicker than other sources, but they will be signed.

I am currently looking at doing a proper book launch in Sydney and Canberra. I have had so much else going on I didn’t realise time had slipped away from me and I only have a week really to organise something!

I will also be having a stall at Jerrabomberra Trash and Treasure to sell other things, but I will also have copies of my book if anyone would like to come down and meet me and get a signed copy there.

Currently the only way I am accepting payments is through Paypal as it is the easiest. It will be $5 for postage as well. Paypal do accept payments via credit card too. There is a buy button in the top right hand corner of this blog.

If you’d like to hold off until I announce some book launch dates that’s ok too. I am hoping to have that organised in the next few days so I will be able to let you know soon. Otherwise if you already know me, you can call me or tell me next time we see each other.

If you have any questions you can email me on savvymumma@gmail.com and I will respond hopefully within 24 hours.

Thank you so much for all your support. The website for the book will be finished very soon and will be updated regularly with new pictures and things.

I will post in depth soon about my whole self publishing experience so if you have any specific questions leave a comment so I can address them in that post! Thanks.

Remember there is a limited amount of signed copies available at the moment.

Website building

As excited as I was about my other website idea I am not going to do it. I HATE building websites and I am not really computer savvy, so I am “outsourcing” it. So far, the new site looks brilliant. It won’t be up just yet, and I will modify it from time to time, but it is so much better than what I did.

I will however do my other idea as a blog I think. I won’t be doing it for a few months, but hopefully when I get around to doing it it will be good.

So my recommendation to everyone is unless you enjoy website building and know what you are doing it is better to pay someone who does know what they are doing.

If you decide you would like to do it some really good info can be found at www.thesitewizard.com

Release date and the site for my book

It’s not finished yet, but I thought I would share with you all the website I have been building for my book. I am very nervous; there is still work to do, so be kind. The heading is going to be changed and the border removed and there are a few other ideas I am playing around with, but I’ll see how I go.

To visit the site I've been building click here.

Oh, it’s scary that someone other than my family will see it!

Also, if you’d like a sneak peek inside click here

I will have a limited number of books I will sign for people that can be purchased directly from my blog here and I will set that up soon so you can order if you like. There is a limited number though, so you’ll have to be quick. I will set it up on Thursday 11th March.

I’m on a high now! Oh, and we have a release date... 15th March!

Breakfast truck

I had an idea the other day for a good way to make money. It probably takes a bit to start up, but is something I think would work quite well. I have not done any research into it properly, but I know where we used to live and where my husband used to work it would have gone down well.

My husband used to do warehousing work and start at 5 or 6am. He usually finished about 2pm. There was a lunch truck that used to come with sandwiches and things at around 12 or 1. Most of the guys went and bought from it. They wished it came earlier as they had been up for so long and by the time it came they were close to home time.

I know a lot of the factories and warehouses there have their staff start very early like that so my thinking is a breakfast truck would be more appropriate, coming around 9am, or when they have their first break.

You would need to truck with the companies you wish to visit to see if they will allow it. You would need a check decked out with refrigeration and cooking utensils and equipment. You would need to find out what they would like to eat, what is easy to have prepared, OH&S laws, insurance etc...

So it is not something you could start quickly and easily, but it an idea that might help someone.
