Motivation can be lacking at times. If things are going well financially it can be easy to let the budget slip and not worry about increasing your income. When things are going bad it can be hard because you are so stressed about needing to make more money to pay for everything it can be hard to even know where to start.
So how can you motivate yourself to make more money?
Think about how it feels
When you are on top of your finances, savings are growing and your bills are paid it feels pretty good, right? When you have a pile of stuff to sell but really can't be bothered, try to focus on how good it feels when the money hits your account and the stuff is out of your house instead of focusing on what you need to do to sell it all.
Have a goal
Why are you trying to make more money? Is it for a particular bill? A family holiday? A day at a spa for yourself? A $1000 emergency fund? When you have a goal to work towards it can be easier than just trying to make more money.
What's your target?
With that goal set yourself a target for an amount of money you want to make. For example if you are just starting to kick off selling things, why not aim to make $200 or $500 this week. If you've been doing it for a while increase your amount. If the bill is $500, that can be your first target.
An image of your goal is a great way to motivate yourself to get started and stay on track. Put a picture of your goal in places you see a lot like the fridge, your bathroom mirror, your wallet and so on. You could even do up a graph or chart to mark off smaller amounts as you work to reach your goal.
Dedicate time to making money. Be specific and set work hours during which time you will be doing whatever it is you plan to do to make money. Say you plan on doing ironing every night. Dedicate the hours each night or the nights you want to work and commit. Don't do other things over those same hours.
Let someone know
Letting someone know about your goal to make money and your plan on how you will do it can help keep you motivated. They can keep you accountable and encourage you when you feel you can't do it.
