Debt update

I just realized it has been a few months (ok, since July) that I gave a debt reduction update. Click here if you want to read it.

We were doing really well, then with moving interstate and our house being left in a less than nice state by our tenants and a few other things our debt repayment kind of stalled.

My husbands company lost the contract with another company which had the position my husband was being transferred too. He has been doing a different job in the meantime but that has been much slower than they said and is a casual position now. He was also being head hunted for another job which he has just checked out and we are pretty sure is dodgy. My husband couldn’t get a straight answer out of the guy for lots of things, so he wont be going there. All this means our wage the last few weeks has not been anywhere near our normal income.

It’s ok though. There are lots of things we can and will do to rectify the situation and early 2011 will see us debt free except our mortgage.

Our aim is to have the personal loan gone in the next month and have the credit card paid off after that. Thankfully neither of them are terribly high.

There are a few job prospects for my husband in January, so hopefully our less than desirable wage will be back to normal in a few weeks. It does make it a little tough in the meantime, but nothing we can’t cope with.

Thankfully we are all prepared for Christmas, we have food in the cupboards and not far to work so our petrol bill has dropped dramatically. This has all helped to reduced our costs. That and where we live now most things are much cheaper.

So we will continue to plug away at the debt and by the end of Jan I am hoping to say “I’m debt free!” (Excluding the mortgage of course!) I hated being in debt, but sometimes you need a loan. If you live in the UK you can apply today for one.

  1. Good on you! I just had my first rental property settle today, before that I was debt free lol. But excited anyway.
